Testing the future

The M1 Spitzing R Pedelec

After some consideration we decided it was time to test some e-bikes. Why? Some may say... Well, we have many reasons for that:

  • First one is that our long time friend and free lance test (more stunt) pilot Bobby Root is brand ambassador for the M1 series in the US.
  • Second one: they are a lot of fun, really!
  • Third one: sorry to say, but some of us are getting old and have less time to bike/train a lot. But we still want to have fun on the trails for a whole day. But after climbing 2.5km for the third time in one morning, our body starts to disagree. So the 'push in the back' is a welcome option at that time.

We have some more e-bikes on our test list, but M1 was the first to deliver. So far first impressions are great! With the electric motor switched of you notice nothing in the drivetrain and it feels like a standard enduro type bike. Okay, it is heavy with the motor and the battery, but the important thing: you do not notice the weight when riding, even with the power switched off. On most runs I only use 'setting 1' when climbing and turn it of completely on the rest of the trails. But if you want to have crazy fun, set it to '5' and you fly uphill, can do jumps even and have to brake hard for corners. Completely mind blowing experience.

Read much more about this bike and some others in the coming issues of your favorite bike mag.
