After two months and half, the Downhill World cup is back. The first of the four round of June disputes this weekend, in Val Di Sole, Italy. Check all infos and photographs of the day!
This Thursday was devoted to the recognitions with foot. Today, the riders could discover new look of the Val Di Sole track on their bikes. The first part was indeed modified this year, but that one reassures oneself, the spirit remains the same one: it is brutal from beginning to end! Many riders left besides to the fault in the rocks garden of Val Di Sole, and some have even due being evacuated out of stretcher then in the ambulance. Among them, Cédric Gracia, which obviously tore off a hose connection by knocking a stone, depriving it of rear brake. What does not forgive on a track like this one... One speaks about one or more fractures about the basin and a crack/fracture about the femur. To confirm however, which one will obviously not fail to do as soon as one knows some more.
On the side of the top pilots, Sam Hill seemed in great condition. Rapid and super fluid, the Australian rider was impressive! It will be seen whether that is confirmed tomorrow in the timing of qualifs… Danny Hart was as for him already super hot and spectacular, while Minnaar and Gwin rode more wisely. Steve Smith and Gee Atherton were in the same state of mind, but Gee finished the day by a big crash in the first section of rocks, fortunately without consequence.
We finish with a small weather point: one announced rain for this Friday, it made full sun!
The track was as a result faggot of dust and hyper slipping, which undoubtedly explains partly the number impressing of crashes we saw today.
Let's see tomorrow afternoon for the results of the qualifications!
